South Burnie Foreshore Erosion Control

  • Project value$300,000
  • Contractor nameTreloar Transport
  • Completion Date25 June 2021
South Burnie Foreshore

In 2018 the South Burnie foreshore was significantly impacted by storm surge flooding. This resulted in damage to the Coastal Pathway, exposure of tree roots and erosion around the Romain Creek culverts, which in turn led to dangerous holes opening up in the lawn areas nearby.

During May and June 2021, Treloar Transport will be upgrading the sea wall defences from the existing concrete sea wall near the Yacht Club through to the west side of the Reeves Street toilets.

This work will involve importing and placing approximately 5000 tonnes of armour rock and constructing a new headwall for the Romaine Creek culverts. The works will include plantings along the sea wall edge of the pathway.

During some of the works a small number of parking spaces will be closed and pedestrians will be temporarily diverted off the Coastal Pathway onto an alternative grassed route.

We apologise in advance for any inconvenience this may cause. Whilst there may be brief interruptions to traffic on South Burnie Esplanade, neither the road nor nearby public amenities will be closed during the work.
