West Coast Feature for Burnie Shines 2019
Published on 24 September 2019
Three diverse artists from Tasmania’s west coast will be the Featured Artists for Burnie Shines 2019 with their exhibition open to the public from Friday 27 September to Sunday 27 October in the Learning Space Gallery at the Burnie Regional Art Gallery.
Burnie City Council Mayor Steve Kons said “Burnie Shines 2019 will be a festival of music, art, food and more and this year we are highlighting our neighbours to the west by featuring the artists Graham Mace, Jeannine Binoth and Zoe Grey in an exhibition at the Gallery.”
Graham Mace has been creating stunning glasswork for many years at his studio in Marrawah. He uses an unusual method of fusing glass with copper foil to catch the light. He often creates glass panels that allow us a glimpse to the inside of a wave – a sight most surfers will recognise.
Jeannine Binoth comes from a spinning and weaving background but in recent years her practices has progressed to creating unusual sculptural pieces. She transforms woven copper mesh, wire and nylon into free standing sculpture that may be abstract or functional.
Painter Zoe Grey is an up and coming young artist whose sell-out exhibitions have been impressing Hobart audiences with their fresh approach. Zoe’s paintings are inspired by the wild rocky coastline, constant wind and isolated landscapes of the west and this is her first exhibition in Burnie.
All three artists will be present to give a lunchtime lecture on Wednesday 2 October 12.30 to 1.30 pm. Bring your lunch and the gallery will provide tea and coffee. RSVP by contacting the gallery on 6430 5875 or email@example.com.
The Burnie Regional Art Gallery is open free to the public from 10 am to 4.30 pm weekdays and from
1.30 to 4 pm weekends and public holidays.
