Bridge work on Oakleigh Rail Underpass
Published on 27 February 2019
The Tasmanian Government is funding bridge strengthening work as part of the Freight Access Bridge Upgrade Program at Oakleigh Rail Underpass (northbound), between Wilson Street and Edwards Street, Burnie.
The Department of State Growth is carrying out the work which involves strengthening bridges to provide improved network access for high productivity freight vehicles.
Work starts Wednesday 6 March. They will be working between 7.00 am and 7.00 pm from Monday to Saturday and expect to complete the work in 9 weeks, weather permitting.
How will the work affect you?
The works involve the use of machinery which generates some noise. The Department will make every effort to minimise noise by turning off machinery and vehicles when not in use.
There will be temporary traffic changes to ensure the safety of workers and road users.
Northbound traffic on the Bass Highway will be reduced to one lane. Speed limits will be reduced to between 20 - 40 km/h. Lane closures and a reduced speed limit will be in place 24 hours a day and will affect travel times. Motorists should allow up to an extra 15 minutes when travelling through the area.
Please keep to speed limits and follow the directions of traffic controllers and signs.
