First Coastal penguin rehabilitation centre opens

Published on 01 June 2018

Council are super proud to be able to assist Penguin rehab & release, The Friends of the Burnie Penguins and Cooee-Camdale Coastcare in getting the Penguin Rehab Facility project off the ground.

Penguin Rehab and Release has received grants of about $8000 from Burnie City Council and $2000 from Waratah-Wynyard Council to build an above-ground pool, aviaries and an enclosure.

It is wonderful to hear that injured and sick penguins will no longer need to travel to Hobart to be rehabilitated as they will have their very own Penguin Rehabilitation pool here in Burnie .

Thank you to the dedicated volunteers and Kathy Grieveson for the work you do.
