If you are interested in volunteering, you can visit the Volunteering Tasmania website and see what programs are available in your area, there are some exciting and varied roles to choose from - perhaps you could be a Bread Collector for Produce to the People, a Volunteer Shop Assistant for St Vincent de Paul, or an Adult and Family Literacy Tutor for Libraries Tasmania?
The Burnie City Council recognises the importance of volunteers and the valuable contribution they make. Prior to COVID-19 Council engaged approximately 160 volunteers in different programs throughout the city, this number has decreased due to the pandemic, but there are still many avenues for people to volunteer at Council and in other organisations, clubs and programs throughout our City.
Volunteering for the City can see you located at various locations throughout Burnie supporting and welcoming Cruise Ship passengers during the season (when this resumes), or providing valuable support to the tourism industry at the Visitor Information Centre at Makers’ Workshop. They are the friendly faces that our visitors remember and we are fortunate to have them. There are volunteers cataloging historic photos in our museum; volunteers selling tickets to exhibitions in our art gallery; and volunteers helping out at Burnie events.
