About Council

The Burnie City Council serves a municipality of 19,000 people. It is governed by nine councillors, who each serve a four-year term and has a staff of about 150 people. Council strives to achieve the Burnie community's vision: a vibrant, thriving, beautiful place; a caring community; a regional leader engaged with the world; and a city that lives its dreams.

Elected Representatives

The City of Burnie's Councillors, including Mayor and Deputy Mayor, are elected by the community every four years. Browse through the personal profiles and contact details of your elected representatives.

Council Meetings

Search for Council meeting dates, Agendas, and this years Minutes. Council Meetings are usually held every third Tuesday of the month, at 7pm in the Council Chambers, 80 Wilson Street including Public Question Time.

Special Committees

Council operates a number of Special Committees focused on a specific purpose in the community. It appoints councillors and community members to form the committees.

Local Government Elections

Councils impact the lives of all Tasmanians at a local level. They focus on the economic, social and cultural development and provide a range of services to the community.

Executive Management Team

The General Manager is supported by the Executive Management Team
to provide leadership in the implementation of Council decisions and policies. The team comprises the General Manager and the Director of each of the divisions of the organisation.
