Mayor Steve Kons was elected to Council for the third time in 2018. He was first elected in 1995, and for a second time in 2009.
He has lived and worked in Burnie for 30 years, where he has run businesses and raised his family. His priority while in Council is to see rates kept down.
He sits on the Burnie Regional Art Gallery Special Advisory Committee and the Public Art Projects Special Advisory Committee. He is the Local Government Association of Tasmania voting delegate for Burnie City Council (BCC) and is the Tasmanian Water and Sewerage Corporation Pty Ltd Owners’ Representative for BCC. He is also a member of the Cradle Coast Authority Representatives Group.
Mayor Kons enjoys welcoming the cruise ships into Burnie and is passionate about promoting the city and seeing the benefits of its economic progress flow on to the community.
