Preventing Illness

Communicable diseases are spread from one person to another in a number of ways, such as through air or body fluids.

As part of Council's role in public health, we administer a range of state legislation, and also provide advice to the community on aspects of public health.

For queries about communicable disease issues call the Department of Health (DOH) Public Health Hotline - Tasmania on 1800 671 738.

The primary piece of legislation that relates directly to public health is the Public Health Act 1997.  A range of legally enforceable guidelines have been developed under the Act that can be directly accessed via the Department of Health.
