A dedicated website has been created by the Tasmanian Government relating to Coronavirus COVID-19 and is the most up-to-date resource that the public/businesses can access. This site contains fact sheets, vetted information directly from the State and Federal Government, latest releases of information from the Government and national health alerts:
To The Burnie Community
This is a difficult time in our community and I do not want to bombard you with information which is not relevant.
The Council’s primary concern is to ensure that we come out of this situation with as little impact as possible on our residents.
To ensure that you are not concerned with financial pressures, we are working on an assistance package which is in line with all councils in the state, details of which will be presented in due course.
We will not be putting pressure on any of our residents or ratepayers to pay Council, if they cannot during this time.
I urge you all not to listen to rumours or take on advice from people that are repeating rumours.
We are in a good place and the Government and health officials are ensuring that we are safe.
The worst thing that can happen is that people do not take this matter of isolation seriously.
There are many Council facilities closing to ensure that risks are contained. If we can do that effectively and efficiently we will come out of this a stronger community.
Once again, please concentrate on your personal health and your family’s health.
If there is anything you need to discuss with Burnie City Council, please call the offices on 6430 5700 or myself through Council on this number also.
We all need to be considerate of others during this time, but as Tasmanians we always get through any challenges and our island state isolation will assist us to overcome these difficult times.
