Burnie legend on the road again

Deputy Mayor Anita Dow officially farwelled Vlastik Skvaril (right) on his latest fundraising mission with his friends (from left) Vaclav Hanza and Jiri (George) Babicz.

You can't keep a good man down - take Burnie ultra marathon runner Vlastik Skvaril for example.
The Burnie great grandfather embarked on his latest fundraising journey, where he will complete a 1300km push scooter ride around Tasmania.
Burnie Deputy Mayor Anita Dow officially farewelled Vlastik and his crew at Council Offices on Monday morning (1 March).
Vlastik is raising money for Canteen, which supports young people living with cancer.
The 70-year old was no stranger to fundraising missions, having travelled thousands of kilometers across Australia with his wife Jo.
This time round Vlastik's support will be from his good friends, Jiri (George) Babicz, who will drive the trusty campervan, and Vaclav Hanza, who will ride alongside on a unicycle.
For more information please call Vlastik on on 0438 330652 or by email vlastislav.skvaril@bigpond.com

Changes to Burnie's water and sewerage

Burnie City Council is currently distributing a brochure to residents on changes to the muncipality's water and sewerage.
On 1 July the new North West water and sewerage corporation will be known as Cradle Mountain Water.
This means Burnie ratepayers will no longer pay Council for water and sewerage services and will receive a separate bill  from the new corporation.
Council strongly opposed the State Government's water and sewerage reform since it was first proposed 18 months ago.
Despite having fought the good fight, Council has no option than to comply with the reform - it is now law.
To find out more check out the brochure by clicking on this link.
