Pioneer Village Museum

The Museum is temporarily closed until further notice. Group bookings are available by appointment. Contact the Museum on 03 6430 5746.

Visit Burnie's famous indoor street and experience the sights and sounds of 100 years ago. The Pioneer Village was the first indoor historical street to be recreated in Australia and is still ranked among the best. A spectacular display with thousands of rare and interesting objects displayed in authentic commercial and domestic settings.

The Burnie Council purchased the collection in 1970. The Village is designed to interpret the environment of the period 1890 - 1910 when Burnie was at the height of its first economic boom.

Each unit is built of authentic 19th century materials, the colours used and the architectural variations here are those that were fashioned along the North West Coast from 1880 to 1910.

The "proprietors" of the various businesses were the first to establish their particular trade in Burnie and laid the foundations for the commerce and industry in Burnie today.

Facilities Available
The Pioneer Village Museum offers a number of facilities to its visitors including souvenir sales and Post Office facilities. Coach parking is available right at the door. Wheelchair access to the Museum is also provided.
