Informal Applications

If we do not currently have advertised vacancies, you are still welcome to submit an application for employment. The Council has a policy of advertising vacancies through local media and as required, other means of advertising may be used including government employment internet sites to ensure the best possible applicant is appointed for the position.

If a vacancy is advertised, and the position is applicable to your skill set, you are encouraged to apply. At that time a complete application will be required (as detailed below). It is advisable to regularly check the Positions Vacant section in The Advocate newspaper.

Applications should be addressed to the Manager Organisational Development, Burnie City Council, PO Box 973, Burnie 7320.

Advertised Positions

It is important that if a position is advertised that you contact the person listed in the advertisement to obtain the relevant information for the position. This will normally include:

  • A position description.  The selection criteria will be attached to the position description
  • An application for employment form
  • An information package

Burnie City Council is an Equal Opportunity Employer and therefore selections to positions are based on merit. Appointments are not influenced by factors that discriminate against a person such as gender, marital status, age, pregnancy, ethnicity, sexual preference, culture, religion or disability. Selection is based on an applicant's ability to fulfil the requirements of the role.
