Food Inspections

By law all premises, food vans and any where that food is manufactured, prepared, packed, stored or sold must be registered with the Council. As part of the registration, each registered food outlet is inspected by an Environmental Health Officer. The inspection checks on food storage, temperature control, food protection, cleanliness of utensils and equipment, refuse storage, labelling of foods and personal hygiene of staff. The condition of the building is also checked to ensure that it complies with the relevant regulations.

Food Sampling

For each type of food sold, there is a proscribed standard for type of ingredients and additives which are permitted. Council's Environmental Health Officer takes a number of food samples from different premises and submits them for analysis. Those premises whose samples do not comply with the standards may be prosecuted.
