Waste Collection
Waste Collection days
Weekly rubbish collection services operate throughout the urban areas of Burnie and Ridgley.
Details of collection times and days are noted in the link above.
Household rubbish can be deposited only in 80, 120 or 240 litre mobile garbage bins. The total weight must be less than 65kg including the bin, and only household refuse may be left for collection. All food waste, vacuum cleaner dust and other materials likely to be offensive or to spread must be wrapped prior to being placed in a rubbish bin.
Bins are to be placed within 300mm of the front of the kerb in such a location that it will not present undue hazard to pedestrians.

Recycling
Kerbside Recycling in Burnie. The participation of residents in Burnie has made the kerbside recycling collection service a great success. Significant amounts of recyclable materials have been recovered and diverted from landfill. Several years ago the expansion of the system to include a crate for collection of material has allowed the recycling of plastics, glass and cans.
Why recycle? Burnie's kerbside recycling collection service makes it easy for residents to participate. When you save recyclable materials in your home and set them out for collection, you're helping reduce landfill and protecting our environment. With continued support, Council's collection service will continue to recover significant amounts of material that can be recycled into other products.
Your Vinnie's crate. The special recycling crate is supplied to all residents by Vincent Industries. The crate remains the property of Vincent Industries but it is your responsibility to take care of it. The crate has an engraved serial number designated to your property. If you move, the create should remain at the property.
Place the following recyclables in your crate
- Glass bottles and jars: Rinse and remove all caps and lids. No window glass or broken glass.
- Aluminium or steel cans: Rinse steel cans thoroughly.
- PET: Plastic bottles with the ® symbol or the rocket bottom. Crush them to save space in your crate and remove lids.
- HDPE: Milk, cream and juice containers. Remove cap, rinse thoroughly and crush to save space in your crate.
- Milk and juice cartons: Rinse thoroughly, crush and brick to save space in your crate.
