  • Annie - The Burnie Musical Society

    Friday, 4 April 2008 to Saturday, 19 April 2008

Annie is based upon the popular Harold Gray comic strip Little Orphan Annie. The musical ran for nearly six years on Broadway, spawned numerous productions in many countries, as well as national tours, and won the Tony Award for Best Musical. The popular songs Tomorrow and Hard Knock Life are from this show.

Annie (Justine Barber & Daniela Pizzarani-Rand) is an eleven year old orphan growing up in New York City during the Great Depression. The Orphanage is run by Miss Hannigan (Jane Djakic), who is a bitter, drunk spinster from a long line of criminals.

Annie goes to spend Christmas with the richest man in the world Oliver Warbucks (Justan Wagner) and his Private Secretary Grace Farrell (Kirsty Ashley) where she befriends the staff and everyone she meets along the way, including President Franklin D. Roosevelt (Peter Cottrell).

Invariably the plot unfolds with the inclusion of Miss Hanniganâ?Ts brother, Rooster (Alec Lamont) with his gal Lily (Rosalind Wilton) and national radio personality Bert Healy (Casey White).

Following on from the two hugely successful productions of the Sound of Music (2006) and the King and I (2007), Annie promises to appeal to audiences of all ages.

Book early to avoid disappointment. Performances will be held at the Burnie Civic Centre and tickets are now available from the venue
