Burnie is blessed by indoor and outdoor sporting facilities, all within easy reach of the City centre.
They include the Burnie Sports Centre in Upper Burnie overlooking the City, the Burnie Police and Citizens Boys & Girls Stadium and the Burnie Aquatic Centre at Terrylands.

The Burnie Tennis Centre, off West Park Grove, offers 16 hard-court tennis courts surrounding licensed clubrooms. Excellent netball facilities are provided at the nearby Howe Street Netball Centre.

The Burnie Golf Club is located at Camdale.

McKenna Park Hockey Complex, at the Three Mils Line Road, features an international standard water-based synthetic pitch, four grass pitches and licensed premises.

The Burnie Surf Life Saving Club headquarters on Hilder Parade provides an opportunity for water-based sports.

Beach swimming may be undertaken at Hilder Parade, on the edge of the City's central business district, or at the outlying Ocean Vista, Camdale, South Burnie or Wivenhoe beaches.

Yachting is also catered for in Emu Bay with clubroom and boat launching facilities at South Burnie.

Lawn Bowls may be played at the Burnie and South Burnie Clubs close to city or at the Ridgley Club.

Field sports (including football, cricket, soccer, softball, rugby etc.) can be played at several recreation grounds near the city centre, at West Park Oval, Les Clark Oval, Wivenhoe Showgrounds, Montello Recreation Ground, Upper Burnie recreation Ground, Acton recreation Ground and in rural  areas at Ridgley, Stowport, Natone and Cuprona.

There are skateboard facilities off View Road and at the Basalt Columns car park area in the central business district.

There are also facilities for motorised karting at Highclere, while hill climbing, motor cross and rallying courses are also available.
