Burnie Park

Sweeping green fields, trees of many species, a rose garden, rhododendrons, a waterfall, a music shell, a memorial cenotaph, a fire fighting demonstration track, playgrounds, barbecues, picnic furniture and toilet facilities are all featured within a 1.5km drive of the City centre (Post Office), at Burnie Park.

This 'recreational precinct' also includes the adjacent West Park, providing facilities for football, field sports, track cycling, woodcutting and social activities and a nearby lawn bowls club with three (3) greens.

Burnie Park is also home to the City's oldest building, the Burnie Inn.  Modern playground equipment is provided as well as free barbecues.

The Park features seasonal annual garden beds and a developed landscape, with numerous exotic and native trees and abundant lawns for passive recreation.

The Park is used annually for events such as the Village Green Fair, Carols by Candlelight, Picnic in the Park, Anzac Day/Remembrance Day services and fire flighting demonstrations.

The Burnie Park is easily accessible to all.

Oakleigh Park

This small historical parkland is a link with the European settlement of Burnie, being the site where architect and surveyor Henry Hellyer camped on May 8, 1827 on his visit to Emu Bay, prior to the establishment five (5) months later (October 9, 1827) of a township by the Van Diemen's Land Company.  This event is symbolised by a slender column of pink granite, and a plaque unveiled in the sesquicentenary year 1977.

The park is a 0.5km walk from the City centre (Post Office) and features picnic seating and tables, playground equipment, a fountain and sundial.

The park was named after a house known as 'Oakleigh' built for the Van Diemen's Land Company's Emu Bay overseer.  It stood near the area from the early 1840's until it was demolished in 1962.

Romaine Reserve

This park forms part of a walkway and boardwalk that circumnavigates Burnie and can also be used for cycling or relaxing.

It features a fitness track that winds rounds a dam on Romaine Creek containing domestic and wild fowl.

The Reserve contains both remnant and exotic vegetation, with large mountain ashes, white gums, substorey blackwoods and man ferns.
