Burnie Regional Play Space Consultation Report

Some time ago Council identified that the development of a regional play space in Burnie may provide a range of benefits to our community.

Some time ago Council identified that the development of a regional play space in Burnie may provide a range of benefits to our community.

To help explore and better understand  the needs and expectations of our community for such a project, Council has undertaken a consultation process over the last 12 months.

The final report from the consultation sessions can be accessed - click here

The main findings of the report are summarised as follows:

  • Strong community desire for a playground designed for all ages and abilities. A playground that also catered for families to gather and picnic, and that it caters for toddlers, primary aged children, teenagers and adults.
  • A traditional style playground (off the shelf elements) with a nature based play section incorporated, was the preferred style.
  • Three preferred sites stood out from the suggestions put forward:
    • Burnie Park
    • Area in front of the Makers Workshop
    • Anywhere along the beachfront (West Beach)

Council would welcome feedback and comments on the consultation report.

The next step in the project will be to further workshop with Council potential sites for the play space, play themes and project scale, with a view to identifying a preferred site and broad scope for the play elements.
