Youth Council to unveil new lockers

Thanks to an initiative by the Burnie Youth Council, there are seven new storage lockers available for the public to use, located in the Marine Terrace multi-storey car park.

Following a suggestion made by the Youth Council, a recommendation was put forward to the Burnie City Council for the installation of lockers in the CBD to be considered as part of the 2014/15 capital works budget.

Burnie Mayor Anita Dow said, “Burnie City Council is very proud of the work that our Youth Council undertakes, and it is wonderful to see initiatives such as this come to fruition.”

“Youth Council members recognised a need for accessible storage lockers in the CBD that both students, and the general public, could use. They approached Council and we were able to work with the Youth Council to make it happen.”

“The multi-storey car park was decided as the most appropriate place for the lockers, given that security systems are currently in place for monitoring and surveillance.”

The lockers are very user friendly, with step-by-step instructions clearly displayed, and they are free for everyone to use. People wishing to use the lockers are advised that they will need to remove any items by 9pm each day as they are set to automatically open at this time every night. Council takes no responsibility for items that are left in the lockers after this time.

The lockers will be officially launched on Friday 4 December at 10.30 am by Youth Mayor Oliver Fryett and Burnie Youth Council Chairperson Ald Sandra French.
