Wivenhoe Lights Funding

Burnie City Council has welcomed Labor’s announcement of funding for the Wivenhoe Lights Project should it win the Federal Election next month.

The Wivenhoe Recreation Ground is utilised for cricket and football, as well as Harness Racing. It is also the site of the annual Burnie Agricultural and Pastoral Show.

Burnie City Council Mayor Anita Dow said, “Stage Two of the Wivenhoe Recreation Ground Lighting Project will signify the completion of a significant sporting infrastructure upgrade for one of the most utilised sporting grounds in the Burnie region.”

“Stage One has already been completed, which provided lighting for the harness racing track and to accommodate training on the Recreation Ground. Stage Two involves the installation of two 35m poles with associated flood lights to provide lighting to meet relevant standards for night football and cricket.”

“The completion of Stage Two will allow for increased activity that not only meets the needs of the Burnie community, but the wider region and neighbouring towns. This ground will have the infrastructure to support regional and sub-regional sporting events and activities, which is a huge boost for the area.”

“Council now calls on the Liberal Party to show its support for this important community infrastructure project.”
