Watch out Burnie & Zeehan, Geraldine Quinn is coming!

You’re the Voice: Songs for the Ordinary by an Anthemaniac is coming to the Burnie Arts & Function Centre on Friday 31 May 2013 at 8pm and the Gaiety Theatre in Zeehan on Saturday 1 June 2013 at 8pm.

In 1986, John Farnham became a hero with his anthem for the masses, You’re the Voice. Truly great rock songs lift ordinary people to the status of kings. If only for three minutes. Who would have thought the former plumber would reinvent himself so heroically? But he did it. 2013, 27 years later, one anthemaniac, Geraldine Quinn, vows to write the rock for today’s glorious ordinary, as all great rock anthems are about the common or garden heroes. Quinn brings the powers of the rock anthem to the fore to celebrate the middle-of-the-road lives of ordinary Australians.

Deputy Mayor Sandra French said, “Geraldine Quinn visited Burnie for the launch of the season late last year. She gave the audience a teaser performance and people are still talking about it. In the three minute teaser treat she performed, she had many men in the audience blushing and the rest of us holding our stomachs with laughter.”

You’re the Voice combines a huge voice, daring costumes, and award-winning original songs. A rockin’, rollin’, fist-in-the-air, high-note-squealin’ shout to urban growth boundary middle-of-the-roaders, You’re the Voice is not to be missed!

Quinn is a rock goddess, a songwriter and comedian who has sold out shows and impressed critics worldwide earning rave reviews at Adelaide Fringe, Edinburgh Fringe and Melbourne International Comedy Festival. You’re the Voice has won a string of awards including: 2011 Melbourne International Comedy Festival Golden Gibbo for Best Independent Production; 2012 Victorian Green Room Award for Best Original Songs; and has been nominated for Green Room Awards for Best Cabaret Production and Best Cabaret Artiste in 2012.

Burnie Arts & Function Centre Director, Geoff Dobson said, “The Burnie Arts & Function Centre is thrilled to be able to take Geraldine Quinn to the Gaiety Theatre in Zeehan as part of the Arts UNEARTHED program.”

The arts UNEARTHED program, in partnership with MMG is a program that provides access to quality arts experiences for the community through audience development activities, workshops and opportunities to exhibit and perform.

“Geraldine Quinn’s cabaret is a brilliant blend of sass, satire and pathos. Her insightful and hilarious lyrics create unsettling resonances; she can be witty, soulful, or both at once. If you grew up, or lived through the 70’s and 80’s, you will enjoy and relate to every minute!” Mr Dobson said.
