Two large cruise ships in a week

Burnie is expecting two large cruise ships to visit in the next week.

The Pacific Jewel will arrive on Saturday, 28 February 2015 at 8am from Melbourne and leave Burnie for Melbourne at 5pm. Approximately 2000 passengers and crew are expected to explore the region for the day.

Mayor Anita Dow said, “This Saturday the Citylink Sidewalk Sellout is happening in Wilson Street. I think it is a great initiative of our local businesses to work together to create a shopping event with entertainment to provide a memorable day for the visitors and locals.

“I hope the businesses have a successful day and benefit from thinking outside the square to enhance the atmosphere and activities in our city.”

Wilson Street (from Cattley Street to Wilmot Street) will be closed to traffic for the Citylink Sidewalk Sellout from 6am to 4pm on Saturday, 28 February 2015.

The Aurora cruise ship with approximately 2100 passengers and crew on board will arrive in Burnie on Wednesday, 4 March 2015 at 8am from Melbourne and leave Burnie for Sydney at 6pm.

“The Aurora is our second last cruise ship to visit for the 2014/15 season. I am very much looking forward to greeting the passengers on their arrival.

“I hope all passengers and crew from both ships have a wonderful time and get to experience the North-West beauty,” Mayor Dow said.

The 2014/15 cruise ship season is set to bring an approximate economic boost of over $2.5 million to the region. The final cruise ship to visit for the season is the return of the Pacific Jewel on Monday, 9 March 2015.
