Three of Tasmania’s best actors in Burnie

Art, a comedy by Yasmina Reza, translated by Christopher Hampton has enjoyed outstanding success on the West End and in Broadway, winning the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Comedy and the Tony Award for Best Play.

This hilarious play about three friends and a painting now finds its way to Burnie as part of the Burnie Arts & Function Centre’s 2013 performing arts subscription season, this Saturday, 9 February at 8pm.

Deputy Mayor Sandra French said, “This wonderful 90 minute play explores why sometimes you love your friends, and sometimes you just can’t understand them, especially when they go and do the totally unexpected that makes you wonder why you became friends in the first place.”

Art features some of Tasmania’s best actors, including John Xintavelonis, fresh from a successful season with South Pacific in Brisbane, Robert Jarman, one of Tasmania’s best known theatre identities, and Jeff Michel.

Director of the Burnie Arts & Function Centre Geoff Dobson said, “Anyone who saw I Am My Own Wife from our 2011 season, will remember the outstanding Robert Jarman.

“I highly recommend that you come along and see one of the best nights you will have in the theatre this year, with three of Tasmania’s best actors.”

Artis produced by Tasmania’s Blue Cow Theatre and toured by Tasmania Performs with the assistance of playing Australia and Arts Tasmania.
