The challenge has been set

We all know we should be more active but no one said we couldn’t have fun at the same time!

Burnie’s brand new event, The Burnie Challenge is an extreme sporting event that consists of trail running mixed with 14 various types of challenging man-made obstacles, mud and more. This first time event will be held on Sunday April 10 at Shorewell Creek in Burnie.

The Burnie Challenge is part of the Healthy Communities Initiative that is set to help increase the Burnie community’s participation in healthy eating practices and lifestyles.

Burnie City Council’s Community Development Officer Allison Daley said, “It will be tough, but it will also be a lot of fun too. You can enter as a team from your workplace, sporting club or as a family. You can also be brave and enter as an individual.”

Commando from Australia’s Biggest Loser will be there to motivate you to the end.

“Commando is not only a fitness celebrity but is also a qualified cross fitness coach. He has served within the Australian Special Forces, where he was a Counter Terrorism Team Commander. I think he will really razz up the competitors,” she said.

The Burnie Challenge event will be supplemented by a number of cross training programs to assist participants to prepare for the event. Both the event and the training programs will highlight the benefits of cross training, a healthy diet and nutrition.

“It is important to prepare for an event like the Burnie Challenge. Anyone who holds a health care card can be professionally trained for free from a selection of local trainers. We hope this encourages the whole community to get fit and take part in the first Burnie Challenge,” she said.

To start training today contact one of the listed local participating trainers and don’t forget if you hold a health care card you can take part in a training program for free. All other competitors wanting to train without a health care card can attend these sessions for a small cost.
