Terrapin Puppet Theatre tour new children’s show

Terrapin Puppet Theatre and the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra in association with Ten Days on the Island and the Burnie Arts & Function Centre present Shadow Dreams on Sunday 17 March 2013.

Shadow Dreams is an extraordinary collaboration between two of Tasmania’s famed arts companies, Terrapin Puppet Theatre and the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, with an original score by Australian composer Graeme Koehne.

Written by acclaimed playwright Finegan Kruckemeyer, this performance is an enchanting story of two Tasmanian boys from different worlds. Dale, a Tasmanian Aboriginal boy living in the bush, and Pete, in urban Hobart, wake up one morning having had the other boy’s dreams.

Deputy Mayor Sandra French said, “You’ll marvel as the enchanting story you see live on stage transforms into something completely different right in front of your eyes.”

Traditional storytelling becomes blended with digital communication in this astounding children’s production of mystery and friendship in a magic realist, digital puppetry world first. Staged simultaneously in two theatres, this adventurous, complex production involves artists filming live sequences as they happen and streaming them in real time to the other venue, effectively creating a single, digital stage.

Burnie Arts & Function Centre Director, Geoff Dobson said, “We are thrilled to welcome Terrapin Puppet Theatre back to Burnie, following their extremely well received Sleeping Horses Lie performances in 2012. Since then, Terrapin has been awarded a prestigious Helpmann Award for Best Children’s Show in 2012 for their acclaimed production Boats.

This way of storytelling has never been attempted before and has only been made possible through the National Broadband Network.”
