Still waiting for Mount Street upgrade

Burnie City Council and residents of Burnie are still waiting for a section of Mount Street to be re-sealed, following an announcement last year that the works would be undertaken in January.

Burnie City Council Mayor Anita Dow said, “In September last year the State Government announced that the much anticipated upgrade of Mount Street, from Aileen Cresent downhill, would happen in January, however we are still waiting.”

“Given the state of this stretch of road, and the acknowledgement by the State Government as part of their announcement last year that the surface is deteriorating, Council is disappointed that this is yet to occur.”

“The State Government also acknowledged that the peak sealing period is in the dry summer months, but now Council has been advised that the re-sealing is scheduled to happen in May.”

“With the summer months behind us, there will only be a small window of opportunity to get the work done before winter sets in, and if the work isn’t carried out soon there is little doubt that the condition of the road will further deteriorate.”
