Shiploads welcome in Burnie

Burnie City Council is thrilled with the announcement that Tasmanian retailer Shiploads will be setting up shop in Burnie later this year.

Burnie City Council Mayor Anita Dow said, “This is an exciting announcement. Shiploads is a very popular and successful retailer throughout the state and they will be a welcome addition to the current retail make-up of our CBD.”

“Council has been in discussions with Shiploads for some time and it is wonderful that their plans to establish a store in Burnie are coming to fruition.”

“The location they have selected, the current Woolworths site in Wilmot Street, is perfect and given that Woolworths will be vacating this site very soon, the timing couldn’t be better.”

“Council is always looking at ways to encourage new businesses to the city and the decision by Shiploads to open in Burnie, and to invest $1million in redeveloping the site, shows that there is confidence in the retail sector both within the city and the region.”

“Council is committed to developing a vibrant and progressive CBD. Given their reputation, Shiploads will certainly add another positive element to what is already on offer within our retail sector.”

“The addition of 25 jobs into the local market is also a huge benefit to the city.”

“We look forward to Shiploads opening their doors in July or August this year.”
