A Night on the Terrace, the popular New Year’s Eve celebration has a new name.

RACT today announced they are the official naming sponsor of the annual event for the next three years.

Mayor Steve Kons said, “The event for the next three years will be known as the RACT Night on the Terrace.

“It’s the first time we have opened up the possibility for this event to have a naming sponsor. We were a little hesitant in the past, as we treat this affordable celebration as a gift to the community. We didn’t want the family friendly, affordable event to change because of a sponsor.

“RACT however are the perfect sponsor, because they too provide a similar message. They too look out for the community and pride their business on safety. They are a perfect fit to be the naming sponsor for this event and we are thrilled they have come aboard to support this event.”

RACT Chief Executive Officer Harvey Lennon said, “The New Year’s Eve celebration in Burnie is a huge highlight of the year. Right by the beach, the relaxed and fun night is always a huge success. It has always been great that even though the event gets bigger and bigger, that Burnie City Council have kept this event extremely affordable so that everyone can come and celebrate the start of a new year. We are very proud for our business name to be associated with the event.”

Entry is only $2, to help cover some of the event’s costs and there are two stages of free entertainment. The Advocate Main Stage will have three live bands right up until midnight. The Maddington Child Services Kids Stage will have children’s entertainment from 5:30pm until 9:30pm. There will also be plenty of free roving entertainment too and the popular bonfire will feature again. There are two sets of fireworks displays, sponsored by Maintenance System Solutions Pty Ltd. The first display will be at 9:30pm and the second at midnight.
