Proposed new by-laws available for public comment

Burnie City Council is inviting public comment on two proposed new by-laws.

The Parking By-law is a by-law under section 145 of the Local Government Act 1993 for the purpose of regulating and controlling the use of parking areas belonging to or controlled by the Burnie City Council and section 100 of the Local Government (Highways) Act 1982 for the purpose of prescribing compositions under that section.

The Waste Collection and Waste Management By-law is a by-law made under section 145 of the Local Government Act 1993 for the purpose of regulating storage, collection and disposal of waste in the City of Burnie.

Burnie City Council Mayor Anita Dow said, “By-laws for both parking and waste collection and waste management currently exist, however these are due to expire in March 2017, and as such, Council must replace them.”

Copies of the draft by-laws and the Regulatory Impact Statements can be downloaded from Council’s website, www.burnie.net, or hard copies can be collected from the City Offices at 80 Wilson Street, Burnie.

Submissions in respect to the proposed by-laws stating the grounds of the submission and the facts relied on in support of these grounds may be made in writing to the General Manager, Burnie City Council, PO Box 973, Burnie 973 and must be received no later than COB Wednesday 8 March 2017.
