Plenty to BRAG About: two exhibitions at the Gallery

Two exciting exhibitions will open at BRAG on Friday 20 April at 6 pm. In the Main Gallery Burnie Regional Art Gallery: 40 Years, an exhibition of selected artworks from the City’s permanent collection, will celebrate the Gallery’s 40th birthday.

Burnie City Council Mayor Alvwyn Boyd, who will officially open the exhibition, said “The Burnie Regional Art Gallery is a success story in our community. It opened to the public on August 12, 1978 after quick action by Council and forward thinking by community members turned a planned underground parking lot into a wonderful place for residents and visitors to see examples of arts and crafts by Tasmanian artists.”

“BRAG is operated and maintained by the Burnie City Council and supported by our corporate partners, the Friends of Burnie Regional Art Gallery and assisted through Arts Tasmania by the Minister for the Arts,” he said.

Member for Montgomery and Leader of the Government in the Legislative Council, Leonie Hiscutt MLC, will also be a guest speaker.

In the Middle Gallery, Push Pull Press: Jennifer Marshall, Dr Yvonne Rees-Pagh and Milan Milojevic will bring together a range of printmaking techniques from traditional to digital. The exhibition by three of Tasmania’s foremost printmakers will be opened by Melissa Smith, Roving Curator and Program Officer (Arts Tasmania) and Committee Member (Tasmania) of the Print Council of Australia.

In addition to the guest speakers, the Gallery’s own The Brags will entertain opening night visitors with music from the past decades.

Both exhibitions will be on display from 21 April to 27 May 2018. The Gallery is open free to the public from 10 am to 4.30 pm weekdays and from 1.30pm to 4 pm Saturday, Sunday and public holidays.
