New long day parking option in CBD

Burnie City Council have introduced an early bird all day parking scheme to help the affordability for workers in the CBD needing to park for long periods.

Burnie Mayor Alvwyn Boyd said, “As part of the 2011/12 budget, Council have announced that all day parkers that purchase a ticket before 10am at the Portside car park and the North Terrace car park (Basalt Column) will receive full day parking for $4 at Portside and $5 at North Terrace.

“Another option is to reserve a car space at the multi-storey car park or one of the reserve car space car parks around the city for three, six or twelve months. This scheme can save long day parkers up to 60% per year with various payment options available.

“Council would like the community to be aware that there are ways to save a few dollars on parking when shopping or working in the CBD for long periods,” he said.

Parking meter fees have increased by 10 cents per hour. Short term parking meters are now $1.60 per hour and long term parking meters are now $1.50 per hour. The multi-storey car park minimum fee for the first half hour has increased 10 cents; however the hourly fee at the multi-storey car park hasn’t increased. Full fees and charges details are available online.
