New Burnie Aquatic Centre is Family Friendly

The new Burnie indoor swimming pool has seen steady numbers following the opening today.

Mayor Anita Dow said the pool was functioning as planned, and the response from families visiting the pool had been positive.

“Following input from key user groups, and through community consultation, the indoor pool has been primarily designed for learn to swim and leisure activities for young children, as well as for lap swimming for individuals and groups.”

Mayor Dow said that half the length of the indoor pool was only slightly deeper than the old outdoor paddling pool that had been used by small children for many years.

“This will allow the whole family to enjoy the indoor pool.”

Mayor Dow said that Sea-Lyons Aquatics were planning to run activities for younger children after school, on weekends and over school holidays.

“As with many indoor pools in regional areas, there will be a number of users in the pool at the same time; however the operators expect that they can manage this demand, and that even very young children will be able to enjoy the pool.”

“Sea-Lyons is also planning to install special play equipment in the indoor pool to maximise the experience for younger children.”

“I would encourage young families to visit the pool to gain a better appreciation of the facility, and to see how it will be able to meet their needs.”
