National Foods investment a huge win for Burnie

Burnie City Council welcomes the announcement from National Foods regarding its $120 million investment in cheese manufacturing in Burnie.

The Mayor of Burnie Alvwyn Boyd said, “The National Foods project is just what Burnie needs. It will be one of the largest private investments in the region for many years.”

This plant will ensure that Burnie is recognised as a national leader in specialty cheese manufacturing with opportunities for further growth and innovation.

Council welcomes National Foods focus on a clean, green and premium product.

“The choice of our City recognises the huge changes that have occurred in Burnie over the past 15 years.

“This is exactly the type of project that will build a future that our community has said it wants for Burnie. We already have a long held tradition of making specialty cheese and it is great to see that capacity will be lifted dramatically over coming years.

“This announcement is also great for the regional economy, with dairy industry growth and expansion one of our key regional strengths. I congratulate our staff in their professional approach to give Burnie its best chance for National Foods to expand their operations here.

“Council is excited that National Foods plan to locate its research and development arm at the redeveloped Burnie site. This will ensure that Burnie will continue to be a leader in the specialty cheese market,” Mayor Boyd said.
