Montello Soccer Grounds Redevelopment a Certainty

Burnie City Council welcomes the announcement of Commonwealth funding for the Montello Soccer Grounds Redevelopment in Burnie.

Funding will include $500,000 for the redevelopment of the grounds which forms part of a $750,000 project to increase junior participation in Soccer. Council will be contributing $250,000 to the project.

The project will include an upgrade to ground lighting, the establishment of junior soccer pitches and the installation of a synthetic all weather playing surface on the No. 2 ground.

Burnie City Council Mayor Boyd said “The project will benefit the Burnie United Football Club, a major and growing sporting club, as well as the Western Schools Soccer Association.

“The development of this facility will provide greater participation and place Burnie in a stronger position to attract regional events.

“We are creating a great place to live, work and play through building stronger communities and promoting a broad range of quality leisure, recreational and sporting opportunities. These values are consistent with our community strategic plan Making Burnie 2030 that we are working toward.”

“It has been a great week for Burnie, with news earlier this week of the Commonwealth’s $2.4 million investment in a Centre for Excellence in Regional and Rural Health at the University of Tasmania’s Rural Clinical School in Burnie. This announcement highlights the confidence that surrounds the University and the work they have been doing, and I am excited to see the impact that this research will have on not only our community’s health, but regional health Australia wide.”
