Joint Council Infrastructure Forum

Councillors, Aldermen and Executive Managers from Waratah-Wynyard, Circular Head Council and Burnie City Council today attended a Joint Council Infrastructure Forum in Wynyard.

Circular Head Acting General Manager Tony Smart said the meeting was held with representatives from the Department of Infrastructure, Energy and Resources, TasPorts, TasRail and Tasmanian Irrigation to discuss a number of infrastructure projects and activities in the region.

“Today’s forum is all about further developing the relationship between the three Councils and them all working together on a number of strategic opportunities for the region,” Mr Smart said.

“Infrastructure is such an important asset and it’s essential that we continue developing the synergies that exist between Circular Head and Burnie.”
Waratah-Wynyard Acting General Manager Paul Smith said today’s forum was an effective way to look at opportunities across the three Councils.

“This is all about ensuring Councillors and Aldermen are aware of the many projects in the pipeline as well as existing activities in order to develop a comprehensive strategic direction into the future,” Mr Smith said.
Burnie City Council Acting General Manager Rodney Greene said sharing resources and information was essential to developing a long term vision for the region.

“This is a great example of the three Councils working together, demonstrating leadership and taking a proactive approach to understanding the future growth potential of this region,” Mr Greene said.

“At the end of the day this will assist all three Councils to design and implement a range of programs that complement or build on existing infrastructure projects.”
