Internationally acclaimed Guitarist Matthew Fagan Returns to Burnie

Matthew Fagan, internationally and nationally acclaimed guitarist, is returning to the Burnie Regional Art Gallery to perform Lord of the Strings on Sunday 2 June 2013 at 2pm, as part of the arts UNEARTHED program.

Recently returned from international performances, Matthew Fagan will present new and familiar works on the 10 string guitar, Celtic steel string guitar, Gretch White Falcon guitar and Maton Ukulele, when he takes you on a musical voyage from Hawaii to American bluegrass and rock classics.

Deputy Mayor Sandra French said, “Matthew Fagan is a captivating performer who is renowned for his virtuosity and versatility on guitar and always surprises audiences with a repertoire which spans many eras, cultures and genres.”

Expect an uplifting mix of Spanish, Celtic, bluegrass, country, rock, new age/ambient, contemporary and popular folk arrangements as well as his Matthew’s compositions. A particular highlight of Matthew Fagan's performances is his hit rendition of J.S Bach's Toccata on Celtic steel string guitar. This is also juxtaposed against his entertaining and hilarious ukulele pieces.

Director of the Burnie Arts & Function Centre Geoff Dobson, is thrilled that Fagan is returning to perform in Burnie.

“Matthew Fagan, who last played here in 2011, has toured with such greats as, Natalie Cole, Shirley Bassey, Michael Crawford and Billy Connolly.”

The arts UNEARTHED program, in partnership with MMG is a program that provides access to quality arts experiences for the community through audience development activities, workshops and opportunities to exhibit and perform.
