Implementation of controlled parking near NWRH

Burnie City Council is implementing controlled parking restrictions in streets surrounding the North West Regional Hospital in an effort to alleviate vehicle congestion in the area.

Last month, Council held a meeting with residents in Uplands Place and surrounding streets to discuss a solution to the current parking congestion. As a result, those residents in attendance supported the implementation of a controlled parking scheme for the streets surrounding the hospital.

Two hour parking is being introduced in Uplands Place, Coorabin Court, Kalina Crescent and Alkira Court. The parking restrictions will be from 7am – 7pm Monday to Friday and 7am - 5pm Saturday and Sunday. These restrictions will be trialled for a six month period.

Burnie Mayor Anita Dow said, “The preparation for the installation of appropriate signage is underway and it is anticipated that all signage should be in place by early next week.”

“It is not the ideal solution, as the parking restrictions will also impact the residents’ ability to park on the street, however we consulted with the residents to ensure that they were comfortable with the controlled parking solution, and the consensus supported the move.”

Patrols of this area are expected to begin the day after all signage has been installed.
