Hampshire Facility Milestone Achieved

Burnie City Council Mayor Boyd today announced: “I congratulate The Hermal Group on securing the Hampshire property for its new Cross Laminated Sustainable Hardwood Plantation (CLTP) timber production facility.

It is great news for our region that The Hermal Group has identified and selected Burnie for this development and securing the property is just the next step in their progressing this major project.”

The project is set to bring $190m investment, generate over 200 new jobs upon completion and approximately 160 jobs during the construction phase.

Mayor Boyd said “We know that long term sustainable jobs are critical to our future not only in terms of direct employment, but in creating a great place to live, work and play through stronger communities, vibrant industry and diversity in our economy. These values are consistent with our community strategic plan Making Burnie 2030 future that we are working toward.”

The announcement of the Hampshire site is another milestone in the project. “It is exciting to know that it promises to be a state of the art facility, innovative in its product base and sourcing only sustainable plantation timber” Mayor Boyd said.

“Council is mindful that there are still many steps to go, including the assessment of a Development Application. This is a process Council must undertake independently by considering the application against clear criteria. In this regard, Council has a responsibility to its community to ensure those standards and requirements are upheld.”

“Finally we welcome the announcement by The Hermal Group that a community information night will be held for residents in and around Hampshire and encourage interested people to attend.”
