Geoff Goodfellow comes to Burnie and Rosebery in March 2013

Geoff Goodfellow, celebrated poet, is set to take perform at the Burnie Regional Art Gallery on Monday 25 March 2013 at 7:30pm, as part of the arts UNEARTHED program.

Geoff Goodfellow is no ordinary poet. He is also a boxer and builder’s labourer. He is as tender as he is tough and as hard as he is soft. He is a walking contradiction. He writes with a contrived simplicity, detailing the lives of seemingly ordinary people. His work often provides a public voice for those living close to the margins and who are generally under-represented in contemporary literature.

Deputy Mayor Sandra French said “Geoff Goodfellow knows how to boil down life’s raw and tender moments into a few poignant words. Like his nine collections of poetry, it’s inspirational.”

Geoff has just returned from a North American reading tour, performing at the Vancouver Island University, York University in Toronto, and giving classes and readings at Penn State University in Philadelphia, where he received rave reviews.

Geoff Dobson Director of the Burnie Arts & Function Centre said, “Geoff Goodfellow’s poetry is so unique. His work is honest and amazingly descriptive, exhibiting his sense of purpose and zest for life. His readings are astonishingly powerful and at times funny. His work is a long way from the dry, dense, difficult works in many poetry books.”

Geoff Goodfellow is part of the arts UNEARTHED program, Burnie Arts & Function Centre’s Arts for the Community program in partnership with MMG. The program provides access to quality arts experiences for the community through audience development activities, workshops and opportunities to exhibit and perform.

The Burnie Arts & Function Centre is pleased to support a second performance in Rosebery. Geoff Goodfellow will appear at O’l Jacks Café on Tuesday 26 March 2013. For ticket information for both performances, please contact the box office 6430 5850 (Mon - Fri. 9am - 5pm) or visit
