Free outdoor gym sessions

Burnie City Council has teamed up with the Cradle Coast Healthy Communities team to provide a no cost gym program on the outdoor gym equipment around Burnie.

Mayor Steve Kons said, “We now have numerous pods of free outdoor gym equipment for our community. Many utilise this equipment, but there are people who are keen to try them out but don’t know what all the pieces of equipment actually do and how to properly use it.”

Over ten weeks, at three locations, a personal trainer will be at the outdoor gym sites for one hour to help the community get the most out of their training sessions and how to use the equipment.

“These helpful tips and hints will hopefully encourage our community to keep active, and utilise this free equipment available,” Mayor Kons said.

The program starts on Monday 11 March and runs until 24 May. The sessions are on three times a week. Each Monday at 11:30am, the trainer will be at the gym equipment on the Bass Highway next to the Burnie Yacht club on the coastal pathway. On each Wednesday at 11am the sessions will be held at Romaine Park. On each Friday at 11am, the hour long session will be held in Shorewell Creek Reserve (please note that no sessions will be held on Good Friday and Easter Monday).

There is no need to book. Just drop by!

“Council is also in the process of having new permanent signage at each site to explain each piece of equipment. This will help anyone who can’t make the sessions identify what each piece of equipment is for,” Mayor Kons said.
