Free Saturday parking in multistorey car park before Christmas

It is beginning to look a lot like Christmas! To help spread the Christmas cheer Burnie City Council is providing free parking in the multistorey car park on Saturday 6, 13 and 20 December.

Mayor Anita Dow said, “This initiative aims to help take a little pressure off families as they attempt to get the Christmas shopping done, plus we hope it encourages the community to shop locally this festive season.

“The Christmas parade is on this Saturday 6 December, so we hope to see plenty of people in the CBD. There is free pre parade entertainment from 12:30pm with the parade starting at 1:30pm.”

Soroptimist International Burnie is offering free gift wrapping in Wilson Street from 11am to 1:30pm this Saturday, 6 December 2014.

Free parking is only available in the multistorey car park. Fees still apply in all other car parks and street parking.

“This is the third year Council has provided free parking on the Saturdays leading up to Christmas and it always receives positive feedback from the community. The Council are happy to support this initiative again to create some Christmas spirit.

“There is also a magical Christmas display in the Plaza Arcade. It is a real treat for children. Santa will also be wandering around the CBD wishing the shoppers of Burnie a wonderful Christmas each Saturday. Christmas has arrived in Burnie,” she said.
