Fire at Waste Management Centre

Early this morning a fire broke out in the waste transfer shed at Burnie’s Waste Management Centre.

Tas Fire attended and extinguished the fire and Tasmania Police have also been on site.

Burnie City Council’s Acting General Manager Rodney Greene said, “While the fire has resulted in approximately $100,000 damage to the waste transfer shed, the Waste Management Centre remains open and the fire will have no direct impact on Council services and the community.”

“Arrangements have been put in place to allow the public to dispose of their waste and our commercial customers have been advised and requested to divert to other landfill sites for the time being.”

“The damaged infrastructure will need to be repaired before the waste transfer shed can be operational again, however we will know more about what this will involve in the next day or so.”
