Final preparations for RACT Night on the Terrace

Final preparations for the popular RACT Night on the Terrace New Year’s Eve celebration is in its final stages.

2012 marks the first time this popular event will utilise the newly developed waterfront.

Mayor Steve Kons said, “Last year we saw a glimpse on how well the new space could be used, but now the waterfront project is complete it will be great to see the community enjoying the new area.”

Entry is only $2. Metro is running night rider buses to and from the event. The event begins at 5:30pm.

Burnie City Council’s Tourism and Marketing Manager Jenny Cox said, “The community can expect the same fun vibe as previous years, but this year we are bringing some new entertainment and some very cool surprises throughout the night. There will be more food vendor options as well.”

There will be two displays of spectacular fireworks. The first fireworks display will be at 9:30pm and the second at midnight to mark the start of 2013.

The SeaFM’s Kid’s Stage will have the younger members of the community entertained from 6pm to 9pm. The Advocate’s Main Stage will feature local band Sheyana Mach4 from 7:20pm. At 9:30pm the Bass Highwaymen will perform. At 11:30pm Nine Lives will take to the stage and play into the New Year.

“This event is full of such great energy. It’s a family friendly event full of entertainment. It is super affordable and in one of the most beautiful locations. Without the massive amount of support from community groups like the Burnie Lions Club, Somerset Surf Club and the Burnie Brass Band, it simply wouldn’t be possible.

“Our Burnie Emergency services support is terrific and we have a wonderful security team to help keep the relaxed safe vibe for the night,” Jenny Cox said.

This event is a no glass event.

The RACT Night on the Terrace begins at 5:30pm. The serving of alcohol finishes at 1am and live music finishes at 1:30am.
