Dawn Princess cruise ship to visit Sunday

The Dawn Princess is scheduled to visit Burnie on Sunday, 25 January 2015.

The Dawn Princess will arrive from Melbourne at 8am and leave the Burnie port at 4pm on to Port Arthur.

Mayor Anita Dow said, “We are expecting up to 2,890 passengers and crew and we extend a warm welcome to them.

“Sunday visits from cruise ships can cause our retailers some extra difficulties due to penalty rates. I do encourage businesses that do find it viable, to make the effort for the passengers if possible.”

Due to the works at West Park, cruise ship shuttle buses and other cruise ship vehicles will be utilising the free two hour car park to the east of the Makers’ Workshop to turn and drop off visitors. This car park will be closed for usual parking for the day. Parking is available to the north of this site behind West Park Oval for the community. Please take care in this area.

The 2014/15 cruise ship season is set to bring an approximate economic boost of over $2.5 million to the region. Six more cruise ships are scheduled to visit before the end of this season. The next cruise ship to arrive to Burnie will be the Astor, on Wednesday 4 February.
