Council welcomes freight funding announcement

Burnie City Council warmly welcomes the announcement of additional funding to expand the Tasmanian Freight Equalisation Scheme (TFES).

Mayor Anita Dow said, “In our discussions with industry and business sectors, freight costs were certainly causing an impediment. This expansion of the scheme will go a long way to securing long term industries.

“Burnie is incredibly lucky to have access to the port, and by easing the burden of freight costs our local industries can remain competitive with the rest of the world.”

Council were also pleased for locally based businesses Monson Logistics and Glow Cosmetics, in their success in attracting a share in the Australian Government’s Innovation and Investment Scheme.

“I congratulate both these businesses on their success with attracting the funding. It is fantastic news that these Burnie based projects will create over 30 new jobs,” Mayor Dow said.
