Council welcomes Port project completion

Burnie City Council has welcomed today’s announcement of the completion of the first stage of the Burnie Port Optimisation Project.

Mayor Anita Dow said that it was great to see the project come to completion after years of lobbying by Council to see investment and improved logistics in the Burnie port.

“It was not that long ago that Bell Bay was being touted as the main northern port for Tasmania, and so it is very pleasing to hear both levels of government publicly supporting Burnie as Tasmania’s premiere port.”

“Council is also pleased that as a result of the optimisation project, shunting will no longer occur on the Burnie Waterfront from the end of January. This will not only make West Beach safer and more accessible, but we believe creates the conditions for commercial investment  and redevelopment in the CBD Waterfront precinct.”
