Council awaits funding announcement for Burnie Tennis Courts

Burnie City Council is eagerly awaiting a response to its National Stronger Regions Fund application for the Burnie Tennis Court upgrade.

According to Burnie City Council Mayor Anita Dow, the project is of great importance to the city.

“The success of the TargaFest event this week demonstrates the importance of regional sporting events such as Targa and the Burnie Challenger event to our regional economy.”

“These types of events also showcase the Burnie region to a much broader audience.”

Mayor Dow also highlighted the importance of the court upgrade to ensuring the Burnie Tennis Club could continue to undertake junior development in the local community.

“It is important to understand that this funding will not only sustain an annual event. It also creates many opportunities for our young people. As a community we need to encourage health and recreation amongst our young people, and opportunities to excel in their chosen sport. This upgrade will ensure that there is a further critical piece of infrastructure to support these opportunities.”
