Council applauds long-awaited signing of MoU

Burnie City Council has applauded today’s signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the University of Tasmania, State Government, TasTAFE and the Cradle Coast Authority.

Burnie City Council Mayor Anita Dow said, “Today is an exciting day for the city of Burnie. Council has been working with the university on the expansion of the Cradle Coast Campus at the West Park site for several years now, and it is wonderful to see things moving forward.”

“The signing of the MoU symbolises the commitment of all key partners in working together to collectively plan for future occupation of the West Park site, lobby for additional funding and to create improved economic and educational outcomes for our city and the region.”

“As a Council we are committed to create better educational outcomes in the region and making tertiary education more accessible to people of all ages. We also welcome the opportunity to have a world class education facility in our city centre, which we hope will lure more interstate and international students, as well as families to Burnie.”

“On behalf of Council I would like to thank the University of Tasmania for the opportunity to work together on this project and for their ongoing commitment to the region. I would also like to thank the State Government for including this project in the Northern Cities Package and making it a priority for the region.”

“Council is looking forward to working with our key partners to make sure we get this right, and make this a truly unique community space that meets the needs and economic drivers of our region. Above all we hope it makes a difference to the lives of individuals and families right across the region, through improved access to tertiary and vocational education and greater economic activity.”
