Council and BCCI wait for news on International Container Terminal

Burnie City Council and the Burnie Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) are buoyed by the news that Tasports and DP World are furthering their discussions regarding the development of an international container terminal in the Port of Burnie.

Burnie City Council Mayor Anita Dow said, “When DP World Australia announced their plans to progress the development of an international container terminal at the Burnie Port late last year, Council was excited. The boost that this type of development would have for the local economy and local industry is undeniable.”

“Both Council and the BCCI recognise the importance of this development for the region, and as such, it is reassuring to hear that positive discussions are being held between Tasports and DP World Australia,” she said.

“The development of an international container terminal at the Burnie Port is a key consideration for Burnie’s long term economic future. The Burnie Port is not only the city’s greatest economic asset, but also the regions,” she said.

President of Burnie Chamber Commerce & Industry Peter Holm said, “The Chamber fully endorses this project. We are pleased that negotiations are progressing and we look forward to an announcement regarding the future of the project being made soon.”
