Council adopts Economic Development Plan

At its September Council meeting tonight (20 September 20110, Council endorsed the Burnie City Council Economic Development Plan.

Mayor Alvwyn Boyd said, “This plan sets our principles that aim to provide our City with a strong and sustainable economy.

“The plan will guide Council when making decisions pertaining to the City’s economic development. This will particularly be of great value during our strategic planning and budget deliberations.”

  • The Economic Development Plan features six guiding principles including: 
  • Burnie will facilitate a business climate that is globally competitive. 
  • Burnie will support the development of a ‘clever city’.
  • Burnie will facilitate collaboration across government, industry and community sectors. 
  • Burnie will build its community capacity.
  • Burnie will strive to build its attraction as a liveable city. 
  •  Burnie will develop itself as a regional tourism hub.

“The plan has been developed in conjunction with many groups and is consistent with the direction of the State Economic Development Plan and the Making Burnie 2030 Strategic Plan.

“I look forward to seeing the plan being implemented and seeing the benefits that forward planning can have on our City,” Mayor Boyd said.
